As spring turns to summer, we all start thinking about walking through fields of flowers in bloom, adding to our home gardens and inhaling the aromatic scents that come from the lavender farms in Virginia.
There are plenty of lavender fields outside of Washington, D.C. for you to get your purple fix, as you drive out for a morning on the farm, detour on your way down to Virginia Beach for a weekend of sand and surf, or want to spend the weekend in the Shenandoah Valley hiking waterfalls and exploring all of the Shenandoah Valley farms.
But where will you go? We’ve got a few pick-your-own lavender fields for you to check out come May, June and July.
How to Get the Best Lavender Field Photos
- Take lavender field photos in the early morning or late afternoon when the sun is not as harsh. Sunrise and sunset are optimal times for photos, but make sure the field is open to the public before you go.
- Take photos both down the rows and across the rows with someone sitting or kneeling behind the lavender flowers.
What to wear to the Lavender Farm
Wear white or bright colors that complement purple and blue shades of lavender.
White will always pop in pictures, but a light pink or bright yellow will also stand out in the lavender fields.
Where to find a Lavender Farm in VA
For those interested in seeing beautiful lavender fields this summer, the cost of heading to Provence, France shouldn’t prevent you from roaming the flower farms. There are plenty of lavender farm in Virginia for you to explore.
Sweethaven Lavender of Williamsburg

This family-owned farm offers seven acres of lavender, a mercantile full of their skincare line, artisan-made gifts, and delicious culinary products so that you can take a little Sweethaven home with you.
The farm offers U-Pick lavender during the summer blooming season.
Lavender Fields Herb Farm

Just north of Richmond, VA, Lavender Fields Herb Far is one of Central Virginia’s largest organic herb and vegetable nurseries.
The old-fashion store offers unique items along with local honey, soy candles and various lavender products.
The farm has a perfect deck that overlooks the Chickahominy River to relax as you enjoy a lavender lemonade or a lavender ice cream cone.
Before you leave, purchase a lavender plant or two to take home with you or head to the fields to snip some sprigs of lavender.
Seven Oaks Lavender Farm

Seven Oaks Lavender Farm is just a quick jaunt to the west of D.C. and an excellent opportunity to get a breath of sweet lavender-scented air and frolic in the fields.
While here, the kids will love watching the bunnies in the zoo area, along with having a picnic in the field. Be sure to finish your picnic off with some lavender shortbread cookies, lemon-lavender cupcakes, and some lavender lemonade from the Field Tent.
At Seven Oaks, you can head to the field and cut stems of lavender for just 15 cents a piece. Just remember to bring your own scissors and a basket to hold your stems.
The farm will provide damp paper towels, rubber bands, and plastic bags to transport your lavender home.
Before you head home, pick up a Phenomenal or Sensational Lavender plant to enjoy the lavender fragrance in your home garden too.
Pets are welcome on the farm on Monday mornings from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM.

Blooming Hill Lavender Farm

You will find Cyndie and Peter Rinek’s tiny four-acre lavender farm and garden gift shop outside Leesburg in Loudoun County, Virginia.
Within those 4-acres, they have squeezed in about 1,000 lavender plants. Their plants cover nearly 100 varieties and an array of lavender colors.
Take time to peruse their gift shop that showcases homegrown lavender products and wreaths. Check the farm’s calendar for tea events, tours and lavender-infused talks.
White Oak Lavender Farm & The Purple WOLF Vineyard

The White Oak Lavender Farm in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley is a great place to spend the day drinking wine, cutting lavender, and enjoying the farm.
The Purple WOLF Vineyard offers 12 wines along with some seasonal wines.
Guests of all ages can enjoy spending some time in the Discovery Area.Here you can enjoy not only the beautiful gardens but a duck pond, the labyrinth, and also challenge someone on the life-sized checkerboard.
For those who would like to learn more about the gardens, purchase the $9.00 audio tour to learn more about growing, distilling and cleaning lavender. Included in the price are 20 stems of U-Cut lavender.
During their summer bloom season, you can cut 50 stems of lavender straight from the field for only $8.00. Any additional stems are 15ȼ each.
Of course, a visit to The Lavender Shop is a must. Enjoy browsing the fragrant items like creams, aromatherapy products, and soaps for sale, and then plop down in one of the rockers on the front porch with a refreshing lavender ice cream cone.
They also host theLavender Daze Celebrationthat runs Thursday through Monday in Late June.
Evergreen Lavender Farm

In the Appomattox County countryside, The Evergreen Lavender Farm offers a chance to enjoy the fresh country air.
Head to the fields to pick lavender, stroll through the perennial and annual gardens, take a lavender class, or sit back and enjoy a refreshing scoop of lavender ice cream.
On Friday nights, starting in mid-April and continuing through October, from 7:00 – 9:30 PM, come out for Jammin’ on the Farm’s open mic sessions at the outdoor stage or in the barn.
In July, enjoy walking through the sunflower field and zinnias. While you are out there, cut the perfect flower bouquet to take home and brighten your office all week long.
Tantivy Farm Lavender Fields

Barbara Stringfellow grows five varieties (Grosso, Hidcote, Provence, Phenomenal and Royal Velvet) of lavender at 3,000 feet in elevation on her farm in the mountains.
Her shop offers various lavender products produced from the farm’s lavender, including lavender lemonade.
Take time to stroll through the herb gardens and lavender field, where you can inhale that calming aromatic scent.
Those who want to extend their stay can spend a night in one of the farm’s cabins.
Fields of Flowers

Field of Flowers is a self-serve, Pick-Your-Own farm filled with a wide variety of flowers throughout the summer and fall. To just name a few, they have dahlias, asters, hydrangea, lavender, sunflowers and zinnias.
You can pick bouquets in three sizes, small $10, medium $15, and large pail $30. They provide the clippers and containers for picking, and you just have to bring a basket or bucket to transport them home.
For the freshest flowers, head to the farm in the morning when the temperatures are cooler. And yes, the farm is dog friendly.
