When I think of summer, the first thing I think about is the fruit. Everything is in season! But my biggest summer childhood memory is of the peaches my grandma would bring up to us from California. They were as big as my face it felt like, and so juicy they just would run and run down your chin, dripping sweet nectar everywhere.

Peaches are native to northwest China and are known for their fuzzy skins and bright colors. They are part of the stone fruit family, meaning they have a large seed in the middle. The two kinds of basic peaches are freestone and clingstone. The meaning is right there in the name and reflects hows easily the large seed releases from the fruit of the peach.

When I want a classic peach slice look with that brilliant pink inside, I always try to find freestone peaches. They are easier to cut and release from the stone. For eating out of hand, it’s totally equal on which variety you can choose.

Peaches help replenish your skin by helping to fight skin damage, wrinkles and sun damage. They and are full of fiber, potassium and, vitamin C too so squeeze as many of those delicious peaches in your diet as you can! We love muddling peaches down to enjoy in sun tea or lemonade and all the summer co*cktails we can muster up.
